Expressing yourself in the simplest terms is relaying or communicating one’s thoughts and emotions. It could be as simple as telling somebody what happened in your day or it could even be public speaking at a major event. Different people have different methods of expressing themselves. You can either find a method that suits you or you could find a method that is out of your comfort zone. Any way that you are letting out those feelings and not bottling them up is good for you. By expressing yourself you are~


  1. Increasing your confidence

  2. Developing stronger relationships

  3. Developing empathy

  4. Clearing your mind


Methods to express yourself


i) TAKE UP AN ART FORM

Art helps you to express yourself without having the need to communicate with others. There are several different art forms that you can take up such as-

  • Singing

  • Dancing

  • Acting

  • Drawing/ painting

  • Knitting/ stitching

  • Digital art

  • Video editing

  • Animation

  • Sculpture/ modelling


ii) WRITE ABOUT YOUR EMOTIONS

Many people write when they think they can’t tell others what they feel. There are various methods of writing-

  • Blogging

  • Diary/ journal writing

  • Poem writing

  • Song writing

  • Story writing


iii) COMMUNICATE WITH OTHERS

Communicating with other people is sometimes considered the most beneficial method of expressing yourself. Some ways to communicate with others are mentioned below.

  • Public speaking

  • Talking with a friend or a relative

  • Group discussions

  • Starting a podcast

  • Vlogging


iv) PHYSICAL EXERCISE

Physical exercise is beneficial to both the mind and body. It is also an excellent way of expressing oneself. Find a sport that you love doing or a sport that you are interested in and try to play it regularly. Some examples of sports you could take up are-

  • Swimming

  • Football

  • Soccer

  • Baseball

  • Cricket

  • Tennis

  • Water aerobics

  • Zumba

  • Yoga

  • Running

  • Volleyball

  • Basketball

  • Badminton
