“Exercise is a structured activity specifically planned to develop and maintain fitness”-Brittanica.
With phones and laptops, who needs to go out and exercise, right? Wrong. Exercise not only benefits your health, but it can also positively impact your social life and it makes you happier. While we constantly hear about exercise and its importance, not many are implementing it into their lifestyles. So if you’re one of those people, I hope that reading this article finally gives you the inspiration you need to get started!
PRACTICAL TIPS TO GET STARTED
START SMALL
If you aren’t somebody who regularly exercises, starting a heavy workout routine would not be the best option for you. You have to ease your body into your routine. So start small. You can start exercising for maybe 15-30 mins a day. And eventually, you can increase the time period. You could pick something easy like cycling or even walking. Even exercising for a bit, really makes a difference.
CHOOSE WHAT YOU LIKE
You can never stick to your routine if you do not enjoy the activity. Select an activity that you like. It should be something you think you can stick to. If you enjoy an activity there are definitely higher chances of maintaining the routine. If you choose something fun, working out will no longer feel like a chore- it could be your new hobby!
THE RIGHT MINDSET
When you exercise, you should do it for more than just looking good. While society today puts a lot of emphasis on being slim, you have to remember that there are more important things than appearance. As the saying goes, pretty’s on the inside. Work on improving yourself for yourself, and not for anyone else. When you exercise for the right reasons it will be more effective. If you do it because you want to appear slim, you may overdo it and end up causing more harm than help. Exercise because you want to be healthy. Exercise because it’s a lot of fun. Exercise because it’ll benefit you in the future. In the end, you shouldn’t forget that you’re doing it for yourself over anybody else.
BENEFITS OF EXERCISING
1. It makes you happier.
Straight and simple. After all, that’s why we do most of what we do, right? Because it makes us happy. Exercising releases chemicals that increase happiness and reduce negativity and stress.
2. It helps you make friends.
What better way to make friends than playing with your team to win a game?If you take up a sport you like, you can make friends because you have a common interest. Being part of a team means you will have to communicate and talk to each other. So use this to your advantage!
3. It strengthens your heart.
Apart from your mental wellbeing, exercise majorly affects your physical health too. When you exercise your heart receives more oxygen. It is also able to pump blood better and this improves blood circulation. It reduces the chance of diseases such as coronary heart disease. And as they say, prevention is better than cure.
4. It improves your sleep cycle
Nowadays, I find that a lot of people find it hard to sleep. This is either because of stress or over-thinking or because of using gadgets right before one’s bedtime. It is important for our body to get enough rest. Exercise tires our body out, so we’re able to sleep easily. Though the results may not be immediate and you may need to regularly exercise to see a change.
